Step by step

  1. Open Bing Webmaster Tools

Go to https://www.bing.com/webmasters and sign in. Using your Google account makes the next step easier.

  2. Import from Google Search Console

Choose Import your sites from GSC and allow access. Bing copies your verified sites and sitemaps across, so there is nothing else to verify.

  3. Or add your site manually

If you do not use Search Console, enter your site address and verify with a DNS CNAME record, an XML file upload or a meta tag.

  4. Submit your sitemap

Open Sitemaps, click Submit sitemap and enter your full sitemap address, for example https://www.yoursite.co.uk/sitemap.xml.

  5. Turn on IndexNow

Go to IndexNow and follow the steps, or use a plugin or platform that supports it. IndexNow tells Bing about new and changed pages instantly instead of waiting for a crawl.

  6. Submit key pages

Use URL Submission to send your most important pages straight away.

  7. Run a site scan

Open Site Scan and start a scan. It lists SEO problems such as missing titles, broken links and duplicate descriptions.

  8. Check search performance

After a few days, open Search Performance to see clicks, impressions and the searches people use to find you on Bing.

Tips from 22 years of doing this

  • Bing results feed ChatGPT search and Microsoft Copilot, so being indexed here helps with AI search too.
  • Check Backlinks to see who links to you.

Troubleshooting: questions and answers

The import from Google Search Console failed.

Make sure you sign in to Bing with the same Google account that owns the site in Search Console and allow all permissions. If it still fails, add the site manually and verify with a CNAME record.

My pages are not showing in Bing.

Submit your sitemap, turn on IndexNow and use URL Submission for key pages. New sites can take a couple of weeks to appear.

Site Scan shows lots of issues.

Start with errors (red) such as broken links and missing titles. Warnings are lower priority. Fix them on your website, then run the scan again.
