Sources and method

Median (p50) total transfer size per page taken from HTTP Archive's bytesTotal timeseries for the June crawl of each year, for the mobile and desktop clients, rounded to one decimal place.

HTTP Archive's crawl changed over time (mobile crawling began small in 2011 and the site list grew sharply in 2018 and again later), so year-on-year jumps partly reflect methodology. The October 2026 crawl, the latest, shows 2,624.6 KB on mobile and 2,987.3 KB on desktop. KB as reported by HTTP Archive (1 KB = 1,024 bytes).
